NO ONE IS AN ISLAND
photo series
2005 - 2013

You are in me,
and I am in you.
We think of an encounter
as two lives briefly crossing.
Only later do we realize
that no one ever truly leaves
another person’s life.
Everyone we meet
leaves a part of themselves
within us.
With time,
these traces settle.
Some sink
deeper than memory,
continuing within the life
that remains.
We no longer know
what came from them
and what belongs to us.
We, too,
leave a part of ourselves
in them.
I am the shape
left behind
by all the people,
landscapes,
and events
that have passed through me.
I am not one;
I am made of many.
Even when we no longer see each other,
we remain in each other’s lives
in ways neither of us
may ever notice.
and I am in you.
